Week 15 The Final "Aha" Semester Overview
This semester while taking the INT-323 textiles course, I can confidently say that the amount of information as well as usability for said information, has been the most I have gotten to be exposed to since my attending Judson University. The wide range of intricate details, real world applications and hands of work made this class much akin to actually beginning to branch off into the workforce of interior design.
In the start I was very unaware of all the important factors that go into the initial formation of different kinds of fabrics along with the varying production methods used to produce the goods used for textile creation. From the planting, the strands of fibers to the twisting, spinning and weaving to create individual yarns really showed just how involved this industry is at the heart of it. What looks to some as a solely decorative business from the outside looking in, can find that in the taking of this course there is so much calculated and comprehensive understanding needed in order to be successful. I found that unlike other classes that I was taking this course would be on par to the same level of difficulty and usefulness as my construction course which was to much of my surprise. But as the semester went on I began to embrace this difficulty and understand the necessities of this particular area of study within the formation of successful building.
Some “Aha” moments that I had was in applying the knowledge we were learning to real world applications on the G.L.A.M. project that we were simultaneously working on throughout the semester. I realized just how important product specification was, as well as knowing a materials attributes in selecting the most effective product to meet code regulations while simultaneously meeting the asterisk appeal of the clients desires. I realized what a complicated task this was to do and understood better why we were taking the classroom approach that we were to better prepare us for on the job specifics.
So far as this course pertains to my future professional career, with my switch to majoring in architecture I feel as though the information I have learned in this course to be essential to my design processes in creating different forms and spaces of a structure. My understanding and comprehension of textiles and their specifics and applicative quantities will allow me to make deeper and more thorough considerations that other architects may not be able to with the advantage of learning the intricacies of interior design. I view this course as a priceless enhancement to my learning in the architectural studies and will seek to apply all facets of this knowledge to my future work.
